ENTREVISTA UNIVERSAL.

English Below.

día a día?

Poco.

No huyas

Cualquier cosa falsa y complaciente.

Radiante

Nunca dejes morir tu deseo de rescate. Te guiará a casa.

UNIVERSAL INTERVIEW

Welcome to the universal interview, an interview looking for a common point among

the artists we are interviewing, touching the psychology and philosophy of each

member, each detail that made possible your band. This is not a normal interview,

there’s much more in here.

1- It’s always a pleasure to meet and support bands like yours, so please, in the

name of Rock, please present yourselves. (Who’s answering this interview)

Thanks for supporting underground music. I’m Count Hroozah, founder, singer

and guitar player of post black metal band Moorah. I started it as a one-man

project with no bright intention when the covid lockdown madness started.

Now we are living band, enjoying sharing our music with fans on live shows.

2- In these questions I encourage you to present your album (or upcoming album)

and guide us to the concept in order to create such a piece of art, how did you

do it and what are you expecting of it?

The album Marnost nad marnost (it means something like ‘Vanity of Vanities’)

is based on my recordings from the early stages of the project. The most of the

tracks are recorded in my improvised home studio using whatever equipment

was on hand. Later, when the other guys have joined me, we recorded some

instruments as well as some whole new compositions in a studio. Anyway, the

rawness, intuitiveness of the music is still there. You can even hear some

instruments we handcrafted by ourselves. You know, when I started the writing

and recording process, I had no intention, no expectations, even no exact idea

about the sound – it could be some alt rock as well as indie pop. But I had very

strong idea about the message of the music. I think that it was the message

that chose the sound – that turned to be extreme metal.

3- I always ask about the new album you are presenting but I would like to stay

away from the script and ask you the person of the band you would choose to

go to a lonely island with.

What an unusual question… With all my respect to the other Moorah guys, I

would go with Ference, our drummer. He is a good partner in spiritual

discussions and our chance to survive would be pretty high. He has his roots

deep in nature… and I’m sure he could kill a wild boar with his hands.

4- What makes your propposal special, different from the others and unique?

I think it is our authenticity. We stand outside the usual clichés musically,

lyrically and visually. From what I’ve learned from our fans’ reactions, they like

our drive and DIY approach that they know from legendary black metal acts

(and two of us have played in some of them by the way) and also some

freshness we bring using some techniques that are not common in black metal

or extreme metal generally.

5- A good opus always includes interesting topics. Please let us know more about

the lyrical content of your album.

The truth vs. false religions, the regularity of great world events, the fate of the

individual in the midst of great world events, the rise of self-awareness in our

protoapocalyptic times… But also, some personal topics. Some of Moorah’s

lyrics are based on my previously published poetry, some are brand new.

6- Analogical or digital? What do you preffer?

My approach is to use whatever allows me to realize my musical vision the

simplest way. I appreciate the accessibility of digital recording and editing

technologies as well as the sound of old school guitar amps. I always prefer

sound of real music instruments.

7- Album covers have always something to say and define genres… Let us know

the meaning behind your album covers and the designers who created it.

There is the moth in the middle of the cover artwork. The moth that explores

the darkness, but seeks the light. It is born longing for the light, but also can

forget or bury the desire if it is spending too much time in the darkness. The

moth on the album cover has something special – seeing eyes on its wings and

antenna… A seeing, perceiving moth on a front of a geometric shape consisting

of two triangles. And the sacred geometry on the back of the album… you will

see. I could talk hours about its meaning. The word ‘Moorah’ sounds

phonetically like ‘moth’ in my native language, by the way.

8- Stage presence has been always important in the Rock genre, is this an

important point for you and how much do you care of it?

To tell you the truth… we are not much into theatrical gestures and make ups.

In the beginning of our concerts, I lit some big candles in candelabras to

connect the stage with… the source of my inspiration. I can mediate the energy

for the crowd. Then, we make our best to transfer or transmit the raw energy

and passion of Moorah’s music to our fans.

9- Until which point can yourselves be driven by madness?

What is madness? Chaos, unlawful occurrence? Unconscious surrender of self

to the arbitrary will of other entities? Madness is pointless.

10- It’s common knowledge that in life you need to know failure in order to sceed.

What do you think about it?

Good question. Yes, it is probably not possible for an earthly man to have a

faultless path to self-awareness. It lies in his weakness. Distance from the

essence. However, further on in his journey he may not experience only

mistakes or successes, but only more and less successful decisions in his

continuous spiritual ascent. A mistake is not a condition for subsequent

success.

11- It’s clear that you are marked by a concrete music genre, but what did you see

in it to dedicate your life to it?

What I love about black metal is its fans. Deep, authentic, original, sensitive

people who think, who care. It makes sense to make music for them.

12- What would you say to your pasy “I” if you could speak to yourselves?

‘Stop everything, compose music and play the guitar!’

13- … If you would have to to dedicate your talent to ther music genre, which one

would you choose?

I’m not used to thinking in terms of a genre. I can imagine playing softer guitar

music – without giving up metal music.

14- What is the philosophy that guides you as human beings, not so human and

make you be the way you are?

15- Is there a chance for revolution as humanity or is it too late?

I believe that there is a chance, but only for few individuals. Not for the

mankind generally. The refrain of our song Radiant is (translated):

‘When time leans

And all the lights go out,

Out of the dark whirl we’ll go

On our own!’

16- From all your setlist, Which is the song that best define you as a band and

which one can’t be out of the setlist?

The track Okem boure. It is one of our most epic tracks and it contains all

elements typical for Moorah.

17- What are the normal things in life that give sense to it for you?

Above all, all the most minute manifestations of the fundamental law that

holds the creation together. We call it love. Please don’t confuse it with the

unmanly sensation we call by the same word…

18- How do you work your opus from scratch and how is the mixing and mastering

process?

Sometimes the driving force is a riff or a chord progression, sometimes a lyrical

verse is the first. I usually record guitars first, vocals last and drums last. I do

the first rough mix by myself, then we work with our sound engineer on

mastering the track.

19- Van Halen always asked for a boul of M&M in their backstage with no brown

color. So, what is the thing that can’t be missed in your backstage?

Good beer.

20- Society is completely polarized in political matters, how is this affecting your

day after day?

Not much. I go my own way, I don’t watch TV, I carefully select my information

sources. Polarization is the harbinger of the fall, and the unnatural edifice we

live in must collapse in all its ugliness for anything worthwhile and lasting to

emerge. Why bother? One must know where one’s responsibility begins and

ends. What surprises me is the number of people in my neighborhood who fall

for various conspiracies and delusions. A lot of people are not capable of critical

thinking. They do not stop the increasing pressure of information and

perceptions. But even that is part of the judgment of each individual.

21- What do you think is the biggest mistake you have ever made in your musical

career and would never do again?

I should have started earlier.

22- Sure you have a special show you carefully remember, please tell us about it.

Maybe the first one. I was the only one on the stage performing for the first

time… It was cool, but if we had messed up then, I would probably have quit.

23- A book or a comic that is very significant for you.

Maybe Saint-Exupery’s Citadelle.

24- What its the album of your life?

It changes with time. Anathema – We’re here because we’re here.

25- Tell us about a music festival that touched your soul.

None yet.

26- A dream to pursue?

Moorah’s world tour.

27- A song that gives you chills

There are many such songs. For example anything from Alice in Chains’ Jar Of

Flies.

28- Beer or Whiskie?

A beer when I’m with guys, a glass of some good Scotch single malt whisky,

preferably from the Skye island, when I read books or write music.

29- Playstation or X-Box?

Beretta 92, some pistol targets and a few kilograms of 9mm ammo.

30- A sin to fulfill?

Playing at Wacken.

31- Do you think electric sheep dream about robots?

Oh man, I’ve been really much into Philip K. Dick in my youth. But I know the

nature of dreams and I know the answer is no.

32- Your favorite instrument apart from the standards?

Apart from guitars it is a bass guitar.

33- LP, Cassete or CD?? In words of the Ghostbusters, choose and die.

CD is an Ok compromise for me.

34- This question is a must for me: I want you to confess a story from your life on

the road that can be told and another one that can’t be told. Don’t run away

from this question …

I’m sorry, too early to give you anything really interesting.

35- What makes you angry in the music scene and what would you change?

Anything fake and pandering.

36- How do you do to survive and self-finance yourselves as a band?

Right now, all of us have jobs and professional careers.

37- What are your expectations for the future, something planned when the

current situation is over?,

We would like to do more live shows across Europe. We have some proposals,

so maybe it is not unreal.

38- Finishing this non conventional interview, when the courtain falls, please let us

know your feelings when the show is over.

It is euphoria… The knowledge that something has happened that is beyond us.

39- Here we finish the universal interview in this new chapter and leave you some

space to write something for your fans.

space to write at your fans.words for the readers and fans with this blank page.

‘This so comfortable

Warm hug of earthly peat

Will not paralyze anymore

You rescue desire!’

Radiant

Never let your rescue desire die. It will guide you home.
