UNIVERSAL INTERVIEW WITH HAVAMAL, ENGLISH BELOW
Bienvenidos a la entrevista universal, una entrevista que busca un punto en común entre los artistas que estamos entrevistando, tocando la psicología y filosofía de cada integrante, cada detalle que hizo posible su banda. Esta no es una entrevista normal, hay mucho más aquí.
1- Siempre es un placer conocer y apoyar a bandas como la suya, así que por favor, en nombre del Rock, preséntense. (Quién responda a esta entrevista)
Somos Havamal, un grupo de powerdeath estacionado en Estocolmo, Suecia. Estamos arraigados en toda Suecia, ¡pero aquí está nuestro bastión! ¡Respondiendo a esta entrevista está Björn Larsson, vocalista de Havamal!
2- En estas preguntas te animo a presentar tu álbum (o próximo álbum) y guiarnos hacia el concepto para poder crear tal obra de arte, ¿cómo lo hiciste y qué esperas de él?
El álbum creció a lo largo del viaje, por así decirlo. El tema fue votado por unanimidad después de una breve discusión considerando nuestra dirección. El tema de la carrera con los mitos del norte sigue en pie, pero se ramifica en la sección de monstruos de los mitos y, a veces, en diferentes perspectivas entre esta rama.
3- Siempre pregunto por el nuevo disco que estás presentando pero me gustaría alejarme del guión y preguntarte a la persona de la banda con la que elegirías ir a una isla solitaria.
¡Ja ja! ¡Hay muchas personas con las que elegiría quedarme varado! Pero desde una perspectiva de supervivencia, tendría que ir con Bear Grylls o los chicos de Primitive Technology. Quiero decir, tienes que sobrevivir, ¿verdad?
4- ¿Qué hace que tu propuesta sea especial, diferente a las demás y única?
Cada canción, el sonido y la atmósfera general proviene de una fusión de las perspectivas e inspiraciones de todos los miembros. Dado que todos somos parte de la creación de canciones, nunca se concentra en una dirección, sino que se convierte en algo moldeado bastante único. Todas nuestras críticas nunca nos han identificado con una banda con la que se pueda identificar exactamente, pero siempre han encontrado nuestro sonido distinto y reconocible al instante.
5- Una buena obra siempre incluye temas interesantes. Háganos saber más sobre el contenido lírico de su álbum.
El contenido lírico gira en torno a los mitos de los monstruos en la mitología pagana del norte. Nos adentramos en monstruos más famosos como Fenris y Hel, pero también le damos un giro a las historias como con The Curse of Grendel y Jormungandr. Es un concepto realmente genial para trabajar y estamos muy orgullosos de cómo resultó.
6- ¿Analógico o digital? ¿Qué prefieres?
Ambos en distintas ocasiones. Digital por su comodidad que se encuentra en todas partes, pero analógico por la gran calidad de sonido y la sensación de tener una nueva música favorita en sus manos.
7- Las portadas de los álbumes siempre tienen algo que decir y definen los géneros … Háganos saber el significado detrás de las portadas de sus álbumes y los diseñadores que las crearon.
El diseño fue creado por Alex Rommel en Aerroscape y, yo diría, representa el título cobrando vida. Eso está sujeto a debate y debería encontrarse dentro de todos y cada uno de los oyentes. Pero más concreto, puedes ver a un chamán realizando un ritual de sombras para despertar a las grandes bestias del norte.

8- La presencia escénica siempre ha sido importante en el género Rock, ¿es este un punto importante para ti y cuánto te importa?
Siempre ha sido importante y sigue siendo muy importante, ya que esto le da a tu canción vida y base para interpelar a la audiencia. ¡Tú mismo tienes la oportunidad de mostrar lo que significa tu canción para ti y el público recibe un espectáculo de hellova!
9- ¿Hasta qué punto pueden ustedes dejarse llevar por la locura?
¡Por mi perro, jaja! y por alguien que usa mal la conjugación de verbos.
10- Es de conocimiento común que en la vida necesitas conocer el fracaso para poder acertar. ¿Qué piensa usted al respecto?
Creo que (con suerte) aprenderá de sus errores. Si nunca fracasas, ¿cómo sabrás la sensación de verdadero éxito? Y además, nadie es mejor en algo inicialmente. Se necesita tiempo y esfuerzo para alcanzar la altitud ganadora.
11- Está claro que estás marcado por un género musical concreto, pero ¿qué viste en él para dedicar tu vida a él?
La música siempre ha sido una base importante para mí. Desde que tenía cinco años pude escuchar power y speed metal por primera vez, y desde entonces mi vida estuvo dedicada al sentimiento de admiración y asombro más profundo de que algo pudiera tocar tu alma con tanta fuerza. Encontré una gran comunidad y he creado recuerdos para toda la vida a través de ella, por lo que se queda conmigo y solidifica una gran parte de lo que soy.
12- ¿Qué le dirías a tu “yo” del pasado si pudieras hablarte a ti mismo?
Poco. No puedo predecir cómo habría sido mi vida si hubiera cambiado algo y estoy bastante satisfecho con la forma en que están las cosas ahora. Hubiera sido bueno decirme que invirtiera en bitcoins cuando llegó por primera vez, ¡jaja! Pero en general, solo me diría que haga lo que hago.
13-… Si tuvieras que dedicar tu talento a otro género musical, ¿cuál elegirías? Música pagana / ritualista con mucho ambiente e instrumentos nativos.
Creo que cuanto más te acercas a la base de la música, más te acercas a tu propia existencia etérea. No soy espiritualmente activo, pero la música me ha conmovido de formas que nunca podré explicar realmente.
14- ¿Cuál es la filosofía que los guía como seres humanos, no tan humanos y los hace ser como son?
Creo en la lógica y en seguir las experiencias y oportunidades. El azar es un factor importante en todo y venir lo más preparado posible es una gran solución para enfrentar las dificultades.
15- ¿Existe la posibilidad de una revolución como humanidad o es demasiado tarde?
La humanidad se forma después de las masas. Si algo provoca infortunio o desorden, eventualmente se convertirá en una marea que reiniciará el patio de recreo. La humanidad está cambiando, por lo que nunca es demasiado tarde para nada. Somos especies muy adaptables.
16- De todo tu setlist, ¿Cuál es la canción que mejor te define como banda y cuál no puede quedar fuera del setlist?
Eso varía de persona a persona, pero creo que Berserker es una gran canción para capturar lo que Havamal pensó que era y Nornirs Call es la gran evolución de eso. Aunque nos resultará difícil dejar de lado la canción que inició nuestro camino y sonar; Jotun War’s . Creo que uno es bastante esencial para futuros conciertos.
17- ¿Cuáles son las cosas normales en la vida que le dan sentido para ti?
Despertando con mis seres queridos, amigos, la banda, sentado y contemplando la belleza de la vida y la naturaleza. Es una pregunta demasiado amplia para ser respondida, pero debe ser experimentada por todos y cada uno.
18- ¿Cómo trabajas tu obra desde cero y cómo es el proceso de mezcla y masterización?
A alguien se le ocurre un riff o una idea, y luego todos profundizamos en ello para crear las ruedas dentadas que encajen desde nuestras propias perspectivas. ¡De esto se deriva una nueva canción y hace maravillas como puedes ver!
19- Van Halen siempre pidió un boul de M&M en su backstage sin color marrón. Entonces, ¿qué es lo que no se puede perder en tu backstage?
La respuesta corta y simple es cerveza, ¡jaja! Sin embargo, tampoco se escupiría un pequeño lugar para sacrificar a los dioses antiguos.
20- La sociedad está completamente polarizada en materia política, ¿cómo te está afectando esto día a día?
Como mencioné anteriormente, la gente tiene una tendencia a cambiar la historia mundial cuando se ha alcanzado un cierto punto de ruptura, por lo que no puedo profundizar demasiado en el panorama político. Voto y hago mi investigación como todos deberían, pero pensarlo demasiado es adentrarme en un mundo feo que preferiría perderme. Nuestra música es neutral y se enfoca en celebrar nuestra herencia norteña y entretener, nada más.
21- ¿Cuál crees que es el mayor error que has cometido en tu carrera musical y que nunca volverías a cometer?
Subir al escenario sin agua y perderme que la máquina de humo está puesta a las once, ¡jaja! ¡Nunca más!
22- Seguro que tienes un programa especial que recuerdas cuidadosamente, cuéntanoslo.
Tocamos un show para un fan muy cercano que cumplió 40 años, y ese show estuvo cerca y podías sentir la fuerza positiva en el aire cada segundo. Si todos los espectáculos se desarrollaran así, ¡estaríamos de gira 24 horas al día, 7 días a la semana!
23- Un libro o un cómic que sea muy significativo para ti.
Soy un gran admirador de HP Lovecraft y Kentaro Miura, así que debo decir que el manga Berserk, así como cualquier cosa etérea y cósmicamente inspirada en el terror. Cuanto más un autor pone su alma en una pieza, más interesante se vuelve. Me encantan los libros y actualmente estoy leyendo la saga Metro de Dmitry Glukhovsky.
24- ¿Cuál es el álbum de tu vida?
Sagas por equilibrio. Ese álbum nunca se romperá en mi mente. La cima del épico metal pagano. Pero llamaré de cerca a mi viejo favorito de hace muchos años, Luca Turillis King of the Nordic Twilight. ¡Un disco de power metal excepcional que puso el listón para mí cuando se trataba de música más pesada!
25- Cuéntanos sobre un festival de música que te tocó el alma.
Rockstad Falun realmente me mostró lo grandiosa que puede ser la comunidad del metal. ¡Cuando termine la pandemia, me apresuraré a ir allí para seguir dedicando mi vida al metal en vivo!
26- ¿Un sueño que perseguir?
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame y tener la fuerza para continuar el viaje del metal como, por ejemplo, Rob Halford o Bruce Dickinson.
27- Una canción que te da escalofríos
Valhalla Calling por Miracle of Sound, y Nornirs Call por tu propio Havamal, ¡por supuesto!
28- ¿Cerveza o Whiskie?
¡Un buen hidromiel si me elijo a mí mismo!
29- ¿Playstation o X-Box?
¡Señor supremo de la computadora de por vida! Pero Playstation desde la Xbox original se desvaneció.
30- ¿Un pecado que cumplir?
Fingir estar muerto en algún momento y asustar a todos los que me rodean cuando «despierto».
31- ¿Crees que las ovejas eléctricas sueñan con robots?
Eso depende de si están programados para soñar.
32- ¿Tu instrumento favorito aparte de los estándares?
¡La gaita siempre tendrá un lugar especial en mi corazón! Cuando muera, quiero tener un bolverk con gaitas que me envíe a los pasillos antiguos.
33- ¿LP, Cassete o CD? En palabras de los Cazafantasmas, elige y muere.
LP hasta el final tanto para la calidad del sonido como para la sensación que nada más que un disco LP puede ofrecer.
34- Esta pregunta es imprescindible para mí: quiero que confieses una historia de tu vida en el camino que se puede contar y otra que no se puede contar. No huyas de esta pregunta …
Una que se puede contar y no contar es la historia de los hábitos alimenticios de nuestros guitarristas antes del espectáculo. ¡Fue tan devastador como divertido después y nunca iré más profundo que eso!
35- ¿Qué te enoja en la escena musical y qué cambiarías?
Cuán pequeñas pero talentosas bandas son ensombrecidas a favor de actos más grandes, que el dinero gobierna una escena que debería regirse por una música increíble. Es una ilusión, lo sé, pero por eso se llama ilusión.
36- ¿Cómo hacéis para sobrevivir y autofinanciaros como banda?

Todos tenemos trabajos externos y dedicamos mucho tiempo y dinero a nuestra música. Todos solo tenemos Havamal ya que esta es la música por la que queremos que la gente nos recuerde y de la que estamos más orgullosos.
37- ¿Cuáles son sus expectativas de futuro, algo planeado cuando la situación actual termine?
Para hacer una gira de nuevo. ¡Han surgido muchas solicitudes y oportunidades durante la pandemia, y deseamos ir en vivo para encontrarnos con todos nuestros Einherjars y Valkyries nuevamente!
38- Terminando esta entrevista no convencional, cuando caiga la cortina, háganos saber sus sentimientos cuando termine el espectáculo.
La adrenalina sube y estás exhausto y emocionado. Un buen espectáculo no se puede describir con palabras, sino que debe vivirse. Compartes la alegría que muestran tus fans si el programa salió bien, diría yo.

UNIVERSAL INTERVIEW
Welcome to the universal interview, an interview looking for a common point among the artists we are interviewing, touching the psichology and philosophy of each member, each detail that made possible your band. This is not a normal interview, there’s much more in here.
1- It’s always a pleasure to meet and support bands like yours, so please, in the name of Rock, please present yourselves. (Who’s answering this interview)
We’re Havamal, a powerdeath group stationed in Stockholm, Sweden. We’re rooted throughout Sweden, but here is our stronghold! Answering this interview is Björn Larsson, vocalist in Havamal!
2- In these questions I encourage you to present your album (or upcoming album) and guide us to the concept in order to create such a piece of art, how did you do it and what are you expecting of it?
The album grew along the journey so to say. The theme was unanimously voted for after a brief discussion considering our direction. The running theme with the northern myths still stands, but it branches out into the monster section of the mythos and sometimes different perspectives amongst this branch.
3- I always ask about the new album you are presenting but I would like to stay away from the script and ask you the person of the band you would choose to go to a lonely island with.
Haha! There are a lot of people that I would choose to be stranded with! But from a survival perspective I’d have to go with Bear Grylls or the guys from Primitive Technology. I mean, you gotta survive right?
4- What makes your propposal special, different from the others and unique?
Each song, sound an the overall atmosphere comes from a merge of all the members perspctives and inspirations. Since We’re all a part of the creation of songs it never niches itself one direction, but becomes something molded quite uniqe. All our reviews have never really pinpointed us to an exact relatable band, but they’ve always found our sound distinct and instantly recognizable.
5- A good opus always includes interesting topics. Please let us know more about the lyrical content of your album.
The lyrical content circles around the monster mythos in pagan northern mythology. We delve into more famous monsters such as Fenris and Hel, but also give the stories a twist such as with The Curse of Grendel and Jormungandr. It’s a really cool concept to work around and We’re really proud of how it turned out.
6- Analogical or digital? What do you preffer?
Both on different occasions. Digital for its convenience to be found everywhere, but analog for the sheer sound quality and the feeling of holding a brand new favorite music in your hands.
7- Album covers have always something to say and define genres… Let us know the meaning behind your album covers and the designers who created it.
The design was created by Alex Rommel at Aerroscape and it represents the title coming to life, I’d say. That is up for debate and shouldd be found within each and every own listener. But more concrete you can see a shaman performing a shadow ritual to awaken the great norther beasts within himself, a northern light soul journey so to say. It turned out fantastic and We’re super proud o the end result.
8- Stage presence has been always important in the Rock genre, is this an important point for you and how much do you care of it?
It’s always been important and still is very important since this gives your song life and ground to interpit for the audience. You yourself get the opportunity to showcase what your song means to you, and the audience gets a hellova show!
9- Until which point can yourselves be driven by madness?
By my dog, haha! and by someone that uses verb conjugation wrong.
10- It’s common knowledge that in life you need to know failure in order to sceed. What do you think about it?
I think that you (hopefully) learn from your mistakes. If you never fail, how will you know the feeling of true success? And besides, no one is best at something initially. It takes time and effort to reach the winning altitude.
11- It’s clear that you are marked by a concrete music genre, but what did you see in it to dedicate your life to it?
Music has always been an important foundation to me. Ever since I was five years old I got to listen to power and speed metal for the very first time, and from then on out my life was dedicated to the feeling of deepest admiration and awe that something could touch your soul that hard. I found a great community and have created memories for life through it, so therefore it sticks with me and solidify a huge part of who I am.
12- What would you say to your pasy “I” if you could speak to yourselves?
Nothing much. I cannot predict what my life would’ve turned out to be if I changed something and I’m quite pleased with the way things are now. Would’ve been nice to tell me to invest in bitcoins when it first came, haha! But overall I would just tell me to do what I do.
13- … If you would have to to dedicate your talent to ther music genre, which one would you choose? Paganitic/ritualistic music with lots of ambiance and native instruments.
I believe the closer you come to the foundation of music, the closer you come to your own ethereal existence. I’m not spiritually active, but music have moved me in ways I can never truly explain.
14- What is the philosophy that guides you as human beings, not so human and make you be the way you are?
I believe in logic and to follow ones experiences and opportunities. Chance is a big factor in everything and to come as prepared as one can be is a great solution to face hardships.
15- Is there a chance for revolution as humanity or is it too late?
Humanity is shaped after the masses. If something sparks misfortune or unrule it will eventually become a tide that resets the playground. Humanity is shifting, so it’s never too late for anything. We’re very adaptable species.
16- From all your setlist, Which is the song that best define you as a band and which one can’t be out of the setlist?
That varies from person to person, but I belive Berserker is a great song to capture what Havamal thought itself to be and Nornirs Call is the grand evolution of that. Although We will find it difficult to leave out the song that started our journey and sound; Jotun War. I believe that one is quite essential for future gigs.
17- What are the normal things in life that give sense to it for you?
Waking up to my loved ones, friends, the band, sitting and contemplating on lifes and natures beauty. It is too wide of a question to be answered but must be experienced by each and everyone.
18- How do you work your opus from scratch and how is the mixing and mastering process?
Someone comes up with a riff or an idea, and then We all dig into it to create the cogwheels that fits from our own perspectives. From this a new song derives and it works wonders as you can see!
19- Van Halen always asked for a boul of M&M in their backstage with no brown color. So, what is the thing that can’t be missed in your backstage?
The short and simple answer is beer, haha! A little place to sacrifice to the old gods would not be spat upon either though.
20- Society is completely polarized in political matters, how is this affecting your day after day?
As I mentioned earlier, people have a tendency to change the worl history when a certain breaching point has been reached, so therefore I canot go too deep with the political landscape. I vote and do my research as should everone, but to overthink it is to delve into an ugly world that I would rather miss out on. Our music is neutral and focuses on celebrating our northern heirtage and to entertain, nothing more.
21- What do you think is the biggest mistake you have ever made in your musical career and would never do again?
To go onstage without water and to miss that the fog machine is cranked up to eleven, haha! Never again!
22- Sure you have a special show you carefully remember, please tell us about it.
We played a show for a very close fan that turned 40, and that show was close and you could feel the positive force in the air every second. If every show went through like that We would be on the road 24/7!
23- A book or a comic that is very significant for you.
I’m a huge fan of HP Lovecraft and Kentaro Miura, so I must say the Berserk manga as well as anything ethereal and cosmically horror-inspired. The more an author pours his or her soul into a piece, the more interesting it becomes. I love books and I’m currently reading the Metro-saga by Dmitry Glukhovsky.
24- What its the album of your life?
Sagas by Equilibrium. That album will never be breached in my mind. The peak of epic pagan metal. But I will give a close call to my old favorite from many years ago, Luca Turillis King of the Nordic Twilight. An outstanding power metal record that set the bar for me when it came to heavier music!
25- Tell us about a music festival that touched your soul.
Rockstad Falun really showed me how great the metal community can be. When the pandemic is over I’ll hasten over there to continue to dedicate my life to live metal!
26- A dream to pursue?
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and have the strenght to continue the metal journey like for example Rob Halford or Bruce Dickinson.
27- A song that gives you chills
Valhalla Calling by Miracle of Sound, and Nornirs Call by your very own Havamal of course!
28- Beer or Whiskie?
A good mead if I’d choose myself!
29- Playstation or X-Box?
Computer overlord for life! But Playstation since the original Xbox faded away.
30- A sin to fulfill?
Pretending to be dead sometime and scare the sh.t out of everyone around me when I “wake up”.
31- Do you think electric sheep dream about robots?
That depends on if they´re programmed to dream.
32- Your favorite instrument apart from the standards?
The bagpipe will always have a special place in my heart! When I die I wanna have a bolverk with bagpipes sending me off to the olden halls.
33- LP, Cassete or CD?? In words of the Ghostbusters, choose and die.
LP all the way for both sound quality and the feeling nothing but an LP-disc can deliver!
34- This question is a must for me: I want you to confess a story from your life on the road that can be told and another one that can’t be told. Don’t run away from this question …
One that can be told and not told is the story of our guitarists eating habits before the show. It was as devastating as hilarious afterwards and I’ll never go deeper than that!
35- What makes you angry in the music scene and what would you change?
How small but talented bands are shadowed out in favor of bigger acts, that money rules a scene that should be ruled by amazing music. It’s wishful thinking, I know,but that’s why it’s called wishful.
36- How do you do to survive and self-finance yourselves as a band?

We all have outside jobs and dedicate a great deal of time and money on our music. We all only have Havamal since this is the music that We want people to remember us by and that We’re most proud of.
37- What are your expectations for the future, something planned when the current situation is over?
To tour again. A lot of request and opportunities have popped up during the pandemic, and We wish to go live to meet all of our Einherjars and Valkyries again!

The adrenaline sets and you’re both exhausted and thrilled. A good show cannot be described by words but must be experienced. You share the joy your fans show if the show went well I’d say.
