ENTREVISTA UNIVERSAL

English below

Elegiría a nuestro cantante Franky.

Lovecraft.

M & A: Definitivamente W: O: A 2014!

A: “Starless” by King Crimson.

M: Since I’ve Been Lovin’ You – Led Zeppelin Live

¿Cerveza o Whiskie?
28- V: Cerveza!

A: Whiskey, pero solo Irish!
M: cerveza!

¿Playstation o X-Box?

29- V: Xbox!

A: PlayStation (pienso en la original)

M: Nintendo!

¿Un pecado que cumplir?
30- V: No, no realmente.
M: Muchos!

Tiempo De morir.»

¿Tu instrumento favorito aparte de los estándares?

32- V: Harp!

A: Moog Minitaurus
M: Ravinata

LP, Cassete o CD ??
33- V: CD!
A: LP
M: LP

Si aún no has escuchado nuestro álbum “Unchain The Wolf”, pruébalo, ¡satisfacción garantizada!

Josean Zombie.

Answers:

1- Valentin: Hello! Thanks for having us! I am Valentin and I am the guitarist of the band.

Aigy: Hi there, I am the bass player of the band.
Mano: Hey, this is Mano, drummer by choice!

2- V: We are a band of four metal maniacs that meet every week to jam and listen to our favorite bands. We like to create songs in the spirit of that particular time, when the word “Heavy Metal” was created. We play music that satisfies our own fan deep inside and hopefully satisfies other people too. Together with our producer we managed to record an album we are really proud of, but we never expected such an impact!

3- V: Choose one person of the band to rot on a lonely island? I would choose our singer Franky. He is a funny storyteller, he can cook and he can sing along with my acoustic guitar songs! We would have a great time I think.

A: I’d choose Mano, to watch some killer B movies and play MK together!
M: I’d choose the Wolf, to protect me while I’m sleeping on the beach.
Our album, I think it will age better than us haha 😉

4- V: I think that the songs of  “Unchain The Wolf » are all very strong. All killers, no fillers. But every song is kind of different. “Unchain The Wolf » offers Heavy Metal songs for all kinds of metalheads out there. This album has 70s Blues Rock influences, NWOBHM style songs and fast and speedy metal tracks. But in the end it all sounds like Roadwolf and not like some cheap “we only do 83′ Thrash Metal’ rip off.
M: Variety is king and we like to not stick to a formula that may work everytime, but produces the same songs all over again… we have heard that we are not easy to classify or to put a frame around – that’s exactly what we want.

5- V: The lyrics are really important to us! “All Hell Is Breaking Loose” is about the passion for Heavy Metal live shows.

“Unchain The Wolf” is about freedom, doing whatever you want and whenever you want because you only have one life.

“M.I.A.” is about the horrors of war and how senseless war really is.

“Roadwolf” is also about freedom, riding motorcycles and being absolutely badass. “Straight Out Of Hell” was inspired by a poem by H.P. Lovecraft. This song is about the devil returning to earth kicking the asses of mankind.

“Curse Of The Gypsy” is about a romance between a wild woman and a catholic, conservative dude who becomes a witchfinder and betrays her and burns her on the stake. In the moment the woman is facing her death by fire, she puts a spell on him and curses him.

“Turn It Loose” is another song about free will and doing things your own way.

“Wheels Of Fire” is about fast cars in a post apocalyptic world.

“Never Surrender” is about an uprising and people taking over the city.

“Condemned To Rock » is a song about the sound of Rock music and its impact on the people.

6- V: I like both. It depends. Sometimes I like to listen to a whole album on vinyl, and sometimes I prefer listening to single songs or playlists.

A: Nowadays digital, just for convenience reasons though!
M: If I have the time, analogue, if on the road, digital!

7- V: The wolf of our artwork was designed by a viennese tattoo legend called Bernie Luther. We wanted a simpel, iconic beast. The wolf is biting through electric chains and is scarred for life because he’s been through some tough times. Left him blind in one eye.

8- V: I think stage presence is very important. We give a lot of effort to our presence on stage and how we interact with the people in front of the stage. But the musical quality is more important.
A: I think, both musical quality and stage presence needs to be on spot!

M: I think in Heavy Metal it is absolutely important that it looks how it sounds – big and wild. But it is always a thin line to walk on, you can not sacrifice sound for show or people will not take you serious.

9- A: Let’s hope we are still sane to continue rocking and rolling!

M: Madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

So, yes, we are already there!

10- V: As long as you learn from your failures. That’s the only way to succeed.

M: Take your time, get burned and turn your inner doubts loose and you will be good.

11- V: We will play this kind of music as long as it fulfills us. Every band member also enjoys other genres. But I think for all of us, heavy metal is our favorite genre! The best remedy for the struggles we have to face every day.
M: It’s not just a music genre, it’s a way of life – you can feel the same energy that you feel when listening to heavy metal when you are doing other great things that have nothing to do with music, maybe like race car driving or having sex. I think it’s very unique in being able to have such a powerful, bodily impact on us!

12- A: Practise more on the guitar, dude!
M: Don’t worry, nothing is under control!

13- V: I can imagine myself playing in a Blues band, playing in an 80s synth-pop band or a simple singer-songwriter act.

A: Well I always dreamt of being a Tom Jones impersonator in Reno.
M: I could be a singer in a 80s NY – style hardcore punk band.

14- V: Value and respect all the people of all ages, genders, nations, colours, confessions.

A: The world needs more Humanists.
M: Let it be.

15- V: It’s never too late for a revolution!
M: The earth doesn’t care!

16- V: I think “Curse Of The Gypsy” is the best song that defines us as a band.

And “Unchain The Wolf” is a “must have” in our setlist because it’s one of our strongest songs and it seems the audience really like this song!

M: I think Unchain The Wolf is the song that can’t be left out.

And there’s some new songs that really define us as we are now haha =)

17- A: For me it’s doing sport, being active and also family.

M: Being around my closest friends and getting something done together.

18- A: Well, first a member of the band comes with a particular idea. Then, at rehearsals a complete song is evolving out of that very idea. Then, our producer will help us with the icing on the cake, so to speak!
M: A small idea goes through the heads of the complete band, transformes itself, gets a lot of live testing, and gets polished by our producer. Then we record it and do a lot of recalls at the mix and mastering stage.

19- V: Cold and tasty beer! I really need a cold beer right after the show.

A: Some nice chop suey!

M: Almdudler Green Mate Energy drinks!

20- V: I try to stay out of political debates because they are never satisfying. You always feel bad when someone tries to convince you.

M: Same for me. I try not to even let it into my brain.

21- V: Putting more effort into playing Xbox than playing guitar!

M: Thinking I’m already good enough haha.

22- V: Our show at the W:O:A in 2014 was one of the best experiences in my life. Our first and last show in front of around 4000 people! The huge stage, the crowd and the treatment of the crew made me feel like a rockstar! We met the guys from Saxon in the backstage area. That was really awesome.

M & A: Definitely W:O:A 2014!

23- V: I’m not really into books, more into comics and magazines. My favorite comics are the old classics of Donald Duck, Asterix and Lucky Luke.

A: As books are concerned, I like the old Sci-Fi classics like 1984, Brave New World and Dune.
M: Collected works of HP Lovecraft and Edgar Allen Poe, and Evil Ernie & Spawn comics of course.

24- V: There are so many good albums! Questions like this one are really nasty… But I think it’s Judas Priest’s “Defenders Of The Faith”.

A: 2112 by Rush.

M: Judas Priest

25- V: Our friends of the Band “Liquid Steel” organize the “Mountain Of Madness Festival” in Austria. A few years ago Roadwolf played there and the swedish band “Ambush” was headlining. I really loved their show. I think it was mesmerising. They are also nice dudes!

A: In 2019 we played at Trueheim Festival in Bavaria. The atmosphere, the bands, the fans –  all were really nice!
M: I really loved the Heavy Metal Thunder festival we played in Pisek. The organizer is very nice and the festival was a really great representation that the scene is alive and well!

26- V: Make a living out of our music and travel the world to meet all the other metal maniacs!

A: Performing live in Japan.
M: Travel the world!

27- V: There are a lot of songs! During the last few days I get the chills when I hear Gary Moore’s “Thunder Rising”.

A: “Starless” by King Crimson.

M: Since I’ve Been Lovin’ You – Led Zeppelin Live

28- V: Beer!

A: Whiskey, but only Irish!
M: Beer!

29- V: Xbox!

A: PlayStation (the original one, though)

M: Nintendo!

30- V: No, not really.
M: Lots!

31- V: No. Electric sheep dream about fairies wearing boots.

A: All I can say is “I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”

32- V: Harp!

A: Moog Minitaurus
M: Ravinata

33- V: CD!
A: LP
M: LP

34- V: This one’s a story that can be told because I already paid the price for it: I cheated on my girlfriend I had back in the day during our time at the W:O:A festival. A couple of months later she found out and our relationship broke up with a huge bang on christmas eve in 2014.
A story that should rather not be told is the one about one of our roadies who stole some stuff out of a souvenir shop in Kiel in Germany the day after our show!
M: Maybe when we cut all the power lines to the stages at the biggest festival in Austria?

35- A: The feeling of being competitors rather than fellow musicians!
M: Greed and envy everywhere – we don’t need it!

36- V: Basically we survive because all the band members have a daytime job and we work our asses off!
M: It also helped to play as much shows as we played and producing a great album that people love to buy. But it’s always really on the edge – no one gets rich here =)

37- V: We wanna play live shows as soon as we can and in the meantime we write new stuff for our second album!
M: Yes, finally promoting our album live – and personally Im looking forward to do more music videos as Im really happy with how that went down so far!

38- V: It depends if I think we performed good or not good. But mostly I feel really good after a show. It feels so good, I can’t get enough from it.

A: Exhausted, but most of the time also very satisfied.

39- V: Hey everyone! I really hope to see you all as soon as possible at a show in your area, so we can celebrate the music and our passion! If you haven’t listened to our album “Unchain The Wolf” yet give it a try, satisfaction guaranteed!
