ENTREVISTA UNIVERSAL

(English Below)

.

24. ¿Cuál es el álbum de tu vida?

Iron Maiden – Seventh Son of A Seventh Son

27. Una canción que te da escalofríos

A Gift of a Thistle – Braveheart Soundtrack

28. ¿Cerveza o Whiskie?

¡Ambos!

¡No somos

nada sin que todos ustedes escuchen! ¡Todo lo que logremos en esta vida

UNIVERSAL INTERVIEW

Welcome to the universal interview, an interview looking for a common point

among the artists we are interviewing, touching the psichology and philosophy

of each member, each detail that made possible your band. This is not a

normal interview, there’s much more in here.

01.It’s always a pleasure to meet and support bands like yours, so please, in

the name of Rock, please present yourselves. (Who’s answering this interview)

My name is Stavros Mathios, guitarist, backing vocalist, songwriter and

founder of Bloody Falls. Also am half Finnish/Greek, the only half something

else than Finnish band member.

02.In these questions I encourage you to present your album (or upcoming

album) and guide us to the concept in order to create such a piece of art,

how did you do it and what are you expecting of it?

It all started with the song «Burn The Witch» which i first wrote at 2016.

Since the day i created the song i fell in love with it instantly, so i

always wanted to make an album around it as a title track. The song almost

made it in our debut album «Thanatos» but we decided not to add it cause we

had a lot more to offer to the particular track. So after that we created 9

amazing songs to build this amazing album in our opinion! Also we came up

with the idea to make a trilogy around the story of the witch, starting with

«Descend» which is the story of how she became a witch, followed by «Burn The

Witch» which tells the story of her capture and burning and ending the

trilogy is the song «Last Rites» which the witch didn’t die and has to be

burned again and again until she won’t rise from the ashes of her burned

remains. Thus they give her her last rites so her soul will be forgiven and

cease to exist. We honestly belive that this is the album that will put

Bloody Falls into the map for all metal fans to be blown away with this pure

power!

03.I always ask about the new album you are presenting but I would like to

stay away from the script and ask you the person of the band you would choose

to go to a lonely island with.

If i have to go to a lonely island with someone from the band i’d probably

choose Marko Mäkinen, our bands other guitarist and song writer cause we’d

just create new songs none stop.

04.What makes your propposal special, different from the others and unique?

I really belive that what we do is fresh and unique. I don’t think anyone

that listens to our music can compare it directly to some other band as a

copy. One thing is for sure tho with our music, if someone that likes metal

listens to it and doesn’t headbang in not even a single riff, then i don’t

know what will.

05.A good opus always includes interesting topics. Please let us know more

about the lyrical content of your album.

The lyrics are pretty much random mind creations in all of the songs. Some of

them influenced by stories, movies, serieses, games and most importantly

life. For example «Father of Sin» is pretty much a different take on the Cain

and Abel story. The «Braindead» lyrics i wrote cause i was annoyed with

someone that was saying nonsense all the time in a group discussion. Another

example is «Self Inflicted Pain» that talks about a person that has

schizophrenia. Usually when i write lyrics i listen to the song couple of

times and start getting vibes, then i pick up the microphone, open an empty

text file and start writting whatever the song inspires me to write. Some of

my band members write lyrics separately and then send them to me so i can see

how to fit them in the song. But at the end of the day when it comes to

recording the songs for the final release we always make some changes.

06.Analogical or digital? What do you preffer?

I’d say both have their goods and bads. I prefer digital cause nowdays

everything just works easier digital wise and it’s also accessible

everywhere, you wanna show a good song to a friend, just open a streaming

service and there you have it, simple. But in the other hand i miss going to

the record store and buy an album just cause it looks cool, bands have really

let go of good artworks nowdays cause they know it doesn’t matter anymore as

much as it used to. But still i prefer digital.

07.Album covers have always something to say and define genres… Let us know

the meaning behind your album covers and the designers who created it.

The album cover was created by Jesus Lhysta, also know as The Rotted Artist.

Which is an amazing person to work with and is amazingly talented! You can

see what we mean by our albums artwork. The idea of the album cover took a

while to form, i always had a vision about the witch burning and people

around, but i was missing a lot of details. Then Marko Mäkinen suggested that

we make it more post apocalyptic style instead of Medieval and i really liked

the idea, he pitched some nice ideas and we started having a clearer vision

on the cover. But then came the most important addition to the cover, the

little detail that makes it work and look exactly as we wanted it. The detail

came by Rami Vartiainen our drummer, which was to put masks of happy and

unhappy faces on the people behind. Easy to say the moment he said that

things started exploding idea wise in all of our heads and we started

brainstorming like crazy, it didn’t take long after that to have the full

vision and once we did we sent the pitch to Jesus and he made it a reality.

We love our album cover and we are really proud of the work that has been put

to it!

08.Stage presence has been always important in the Rock genre, is this an

important point for you and how much do you care of it?

It’s probably the most important thing in any band in my opinion. Anyone can

record great nowdays, many can create good music, BUT non of this matters if

you go to stage and you are boring. Stage presence is what makes a band

legendary and memorable, think of all the greatest bands out there, when they

perform live they aren’t mortal, they are literally gods worshiped by

thousends. So yes, we practice a lot and make sure that when we go live

people will remember this and will be entertained. Because at the end of the

day thats what we are, entertainers, if people don’t headbang in your show

then you know you failed that night.

09.Until which point can yourselves be driven by madness?

Probably crazy live performances, wacky personality, weird outfits, crazyness

has no limits i guess, so i can keep going and going. But for sure it

wouldn’t affect our music, i hope!

10.It’s common knowledge that in life you need to know failure in order to

suceed. What do you think about it?

Definitely, i couldn’t agree more. Humans don’t learn without making

mistakes, it’s just our nature. We all have failed at something in our life,

the main thing tho is when you fail don’t give up. Rally yourself and keep

pushing forward, cause if you quit you’ll never know, suceess might have been

one obstacle away.

11.It’s clear that you are marked by a concrete music genre, but what did you

see in it to dedicate your life to it?

I fell in love with Iron Maiden when i was 5 years old, a cousin of mine

brought me the album Seventh Son of Seventh Son and from that day onwards i

couldn’t stop listening to metal. I started playing guitar when i was 15

years old and learned everything on my own by playing Iron Maiden mostly. I

knew then that this is what i want to do for the rest of my life. You could

say i sold my soul to Metal and it’s absolute deep and heavy beauty. I left

all my family and friends from Greece so i could follow my dream here in

Finland, the land of metal.

12.What would you say to your past “I” if you could speak to yourselves?

Dreams do come true with hard work, keep doing what’s you doing kid, it’ll

pay off some day! Also don’t start smoking cause you can’t quit now, hahaha!

13.If you would have to dedicate your talent to other music genre, which one

would you choose?

I’d probably go with soundtrack music. Like movie soundtracks, games, etc..

And to be more specific folk, ethnic, orchestral.

14.What is the philosophy that guides you as human beings, not so human and

make you be the way you are?

You only live this once, make the best out of it. Don’t ever settle for

anything more than what you trully want. Also never quit, no matter how dark

things might look.

15.Is there a chance for revolution as humanity or is it too late?

There’s a bigger chance for an «Insurrection» at 29 of October this year

instead of a revolution. If you know what i mean, haha! It’s never too late

for anything, if there’s something always it’s time!

16.From all your setlist, Which is the song that best define you as a band

and which one can’t be out of the setlist?

I’d definitely say «Soul Ripper» is the most Bloody Falls song there is. It

presents exactly what we are all about! We are made to create chaos in a form

of a circle pit, make necks sore from heabanging and rip souls out of bodies

from the intensity of our music! Soul Ripper equals Bloody Falls!

17.What are the normal things in life that give sense to it for you?

Compassion, love, currency, home, suceess, creativity, family. There’s more

of course, but those come from the top of my head.

18.How do you work your opus from scratch and how is the mixing and mastering

process?

First we select songs from usually around twenty songs, all of these songs

have been demoed by me in my house so eveyone can listen and choose. We

always do preproduction recording before the final recording. That is a must

for changing some things in the songs and sharpen them up as much as

possible. Also it’s a good practise for perfection. Once the preproduction is

fully done we start setting up dates for recording. We have our own studio so

time and money aren’t an issue. The process always goes by this order with

us, drums first, bass second, guitars third, vocals fourth and keyboards/fx

fifth and last. Once we are happy with what we all hear it’s time for mixing

and mastering. «Burn The Witch» was mixed and mastered by Max Morton

(Producer of Jinjer). So all that i can say about that is that there was a

lot of excitment while we waited for the first song to arrive. So that’s

pretty much the whole process for making this album.

19.Van Halen always asked for a boul of M&M in their backstage with no brown

color. So, what is the thing that can’t be missed in your backstage?

Beers! There has to be beers, otherwise we won’t be happy! They are mostly

for after the show, cause we have a NO DRUNK PLAYING rule in the band. But

still we want couple before the gig.

20.Society is completely polarized in political matters, how is this

affecting your day after day?

Personally i don’t follow politics at all. They don’t bother me so i don’t

bother them. Also the band isn’t affected by politics so it’s usually a topic

that no one really cares about in our band.

21.What do you think is the biggest mistake you have ever made in your

musical career and would never do again?

Book a tour in Easter Europe with our previous band Exiled Genesis with a guy

named Lukas Palatinus. We kinda got scammed in a way, not only us but

hundreds of bands. Luckily we had a fun trip, but from 10 shows only 2 were

actually booked and all the others didn’t exist. So lesson learned.

22.Sure you have a special show you carefully remember, please tell us about

it.

Iron Maiden summer 2013 at Helsinki! I had waited all my life to stand under

the stage and start singing along at Fear of The Dark! Also they played two

of my favorite songs of all time, Afraid to Shoot Strangers and Seventh Son!

Once in a lifetime experience!

23.A book or a comic that is very significant for you.

Dragon Ball! From my first ever memories till the day i die!

24.What its the album of your life?

Iron Maiden – Seventh Son of A Seventh Son

25.Tell us about a music festival that touched your soul.

Tuska 2015, simply amazing! I got to see Lamb of God live for the first time

in my life! It would be a dream come true to one day play there amongst the

best bands in the world!

26.A dream to pursue?

Have a huge fan base, tour the world with the band and succeed in general in

what we are doing!

27.A song that gives you chills

A Gift of a Thistle – Braveheart Soundtrack

28.Beer or Whiskie?

Both! Beer for party and Whiskey for chill!

29.Playstation or X-Box?

Playstation.

30.A sin to fulfill?

Luckily no!

31.Do you think electric sheep dream about robots?

I really cannot say, but if i had to take a guess i’d say definitely!

32.Your favorite instrument apart from the standards?

Bagpipes, Irish Flute and Violin.

33.LP, Cassete or CD?? In words of the Ghostbusters, choose and die.

CD!

34.This question is a must for me: I want you to confess a story from your

life on the road that can be told and another one that can’t be told. Don’t

run away from this question …

Ok can be told first: On the road we had our own bus, an old 50s/60s

mercedes. We had painted the whole thing pitch black so it was looking kinda

like a terrorist bus. So one day we where in the Czech Republic stopped at a

gas station to buy some fast food and stuff. A police vehicle past by us and

we were sure it’ll come back cause of the way our bus looked and so it turned

around and came to us. The police officer stepped out of the car, came

towards us and the first thing he did was to point at our bus and say

«Katastrof?» we couldn’t help but laugh cause our bus kinda looked like a

disaster on wheels, so from that day onwards we named our bus Katastrof,

thanks to that police officer!

And now a can’t be told: When we went on the tour we hadn’t planned well

ahead routes and stuff. So for the first 6 days on the road we hadn’t shower

cause we couldn’t find a shower anywhere! Easy to say that it wasn’t easy to

breathe inside the bus with 7 smelly guys. Let’s not include in the smell

from what came out of us methane wise cause of the fast food, alcohol and

snacks we had been eating. When we found our first shower people were

refusing to leave it, it was like finding an oasis in the desert! So yeah,

that was one really smelly experience to say the least.

35.What makes you angry in the music scene and what would you change?

I’d say the most annoying thing latetly is the overproduced music. The

editing is so tight that some songs just sound fake, the human element is

completely missing. Please bands/producers that do that just stop, we want to

listen to humans play music not robots, allow some small scratches from the

pick or handslide, don’t cut everything away.

36.How do you do to survive and self-finance yourselves as a band?

At this moment everyone in the band is working as factory workers. Bills are

running, band investments need to be made so somehow we have to pay the bills

until music does that for us.

37.What are your expectations for the future, something planned when the

current situation is over?

If the coronvirus situation loosens up a little we will definetly play live

shows all over Finland and probably go next year on a European tour as a

support band. Besides that we already have around 40 songs demoed for

listening to start getting a picture for the third album. So most likely if

the corona situation doesn’t change at all we might have a new album next

year hahaha!

38.Finishing this non conventional interview, when the courtain falls, please

let us know your feelings when the show is over.

We always feel super hyped! We love it when people that were there come

afterwards and praise our show, there’s no better feeling when people

appreciate what you do!

39.Here we finish the universal interview in this new chapter and leave you

some space to write something for your fans.

space to write at your fans.words for the readers and fans with this blank

page.

Thank you all so much for your amazing support towards our music! We are

nothing without all of you listening! Anything we accomplish in this life

with the career we’ve chosen to follow comes down to all of you! We hope

you’ll love our new album Burn The Witch as much as we do and we promise

quality music for many years to come! STAY ALWAYS METAL AND HORNS UP!
